MTS Allstream announced Monday that efforts to expand its IP fibre network into targeted Canadian markets led to 60 new IP contracts during the second quarter of 2011. Allstream said in a release that since it started its fibre initiative in March 2010, it has extended its fibre service to 174 new multi-tenant buildings and has secured a total of 247 contracts. “We continue to make excellent progress in the IP market, and in the second quarter our IP sales momentum was again, very strong creating an important funnel of pre-sold contracts that should support strong IP revenue growth in the quarters to come,” Dean Prevost, president of Allstream, said in a release. “Our success in the IP market reflects the continued demand for IP-based services in the business telecommunications market in Canada and our strong competitive position to meet this demand.” Allstream said it added 47 new buildings to its network in this year’s second quarter alone. By June 30, 2011, the company said it counted a total of 2,211 fibre-connected buildings.
