Rogers Communications Inc. is offering new roaming data passes for international travellers that alert customers to their data usage, the company announced Wednesday. The passes will come in various sizes depending on the duration of travel and usage, and can be either pre-purchased in Canada or bought using a mobile device while roaming. The passes are available for U.S. and international destinations and start at $5 per day. The usage alerts are sent directly to the mobile device, Rogers said, and are up-to-date within five minutes. Customers who exceed their pass limit will be notified and given the option of purchasing another pass or continuing at a pay-per-use rate. The roaming passes come after Rogers introduced unlimited roaming text messaging offers last month to customers travelling to the United States. In May, an Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) report that looked at Rogers and Bell Canada’s roaming rates said Canada had some of the world’s highest international roaming prices. This spring, Telus Corp. introduced new roaming prices for travel in more than 200 countries.
