Rogers Communications Inc. is launching its new, Toronto all-news channel on Oct. 3, the company announced Tuesday. The local specialty channel, CityNews Channel, will launch three days before the Ontario election and incorporate elements from Rogers Media assets 680News, Sportsnet, and magazines Maclean’s, MoneySense, Today’s Parent and Hello! Canada. The company said the new channel will be modeled on its radio station 680News, broadcasting updated newsreels of traffic, weather, sports and business. The channel will also run a simulcast of programs Breakfast Television and CityNews and include Breakfast Television's coverage from 9 to 9:30 a.m. and CityNews from 11:30 p.m. to midnight.
