Toronto application developer Polar Mobile is teaming up with The Hockey News to launch a mobile app for every NHL team, the companies have announced. The team-specific apps will be available for iPhones, BlackBerrys and Android smartphones and will go live around the Oct. 6 start of the 2011-2012 NHL season, the companies said in an announcement Thursday. The new apps will be similar to existing Polar Mobile-made applications for The Hockey News and will feature news, scores, statistics and standings, Polar Mobile confirmed in an email to The Wire Report. The move allows Polar Mobile to extend its library of hockey-related apps following an exclusive agreement with the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) less than a year ago to produce player apps. "The opportunity to launch individually branded Apps for each NHL franchise will provide hockey fans with an unbiased, full-featured experience on-the-go tailored for their favourite team anywhere, anytime," Hockey News publisher Caroline Andrews said in a release.
