The CRTC announced Friday it has denied an application from La radio campus communautaire francophone de Shawinigan inc. to change the frequency of French-language station CFUT-FM in Shawinigan, Que. The commission said the station proposed to change its frequency from 91.1 MHz to 88.1 MHz. It also sought to increase its average effective radiated power from 199 to 8,235 watts and move its transmitter site from Shawinigan to Mont-Carmel, Que., the commission said. The CRTC said that it received interventions from two other stations, CFOU-FM Trois-Rivières and CHHO-FM Louiseville, which said frequency changes would negatively impact their revenues and create unnecessary competition in the market. The commission also noted that Radio Shawinigan is in non-compliance with radio regulations relating to the submission of annual returns. Annual returns for the 2005-2006 and 2009-2010 broadcast year from CFUT-FM were returned late, the CRTC said, and as a result, denied the application.
