The CRTC said Friday it has approved licence applications for a trio of new Hindi-language Category B specialty channels for more Bollywood movies and movie stars on Canadian television screens. Asian Television Network International Ltd., which operates Hindi Movie Channel and Hindi Movie Channel Two, has obtained licences to the three new channels named Hindi Movie Channel 3, Hindi Movie Channel 4 and Hindi Movie Channel 5. All three stations are licensed to offer movies in the Hindi language as well as related programming highlighting the stars and music from the movies or discussions about the productions of the films. At least 90 per cent of each new station’s content would be in the Hindi language, the CRTC said. The commission noted that each of the channels must offer “programming that is separate and distinct” from each other.
