Cogeco Inc. has entered into an agreement to acquire Montreal-based advertising firm Métromédia CMR Plus Inc., the company announced Tuesday. A private firm that specializes in public transit markets in Quebec and in major cities across the country, Métromédia is one Canada’s largest rep houses in public transit, representing more than 100 markets Canada-wide, Cogeco said. No figures were announced for the deal, which is expected to be finalized this month, Cogeco said in a release. Cogeco will draw funding for the purchase through its bank and credit facility and from its private placement of Fonds de solidarité FTQ and Fondaction CSN, which was announced on Nov. 7, the release said. The proposed acquisition is the latest in a series of moves Cogeco has made in recent months to solidify its presence in Montreal. Cogeco also purchased Montreal-based data-management firm Quiettouch Inc. in June, as well as private telecom provider MTO Telecom, which as fibre-optic foothold in Montreal, in late August. The company has also worked to expand its broadcasting portfolio in Quebec, acquiring a pair of French-language HD channels in June. “The acquisition of Métromédia, added to our Québec radio station portfolio, is an excellent opportunity to diversify our media activities and create a compelling new media offering for advertisers by combining radio and transit advertising,” Louis Audet, Cogeco’s CEO and president, said in a release.
