Shaw Communications Inc. has applied to the CRTC to launch an all-news specialty channel in the British Columbia region by this summer, the company announced in a press release Wednesday. The yet to be named service would be a joint venture between Shaw subsidiaries Shaw Media and Global BC, and would offer around the clock coverage of local, national and international news, the release said. It is anticipated that the new service would be the province’s first all-news channel, and would be available to TV, Internet and mobile audiences, the company noted. "The creation of an all-news channel in B.C. demonstrates our commitment to help grow and develop Global News in new and exciting ways," Paul Robertson, Shaw Media’s president and Shaw’s group vice-president of broadcasting, said in the release. "This all-news network will build on Global BC's proven success and represents a major step towards expanding Global News' reach and accessibility province-wide."
