Mobilicity said Wednesday its customer base grew by about 63,000 net additions in the fourth quarter of 2011. The company said it ended 2011 with an average revenue per user (ARPU) of just over $30. The year end results marked Mobilicity's second year of operations. Analysts estimate Mobilicity had a total of about 187,000 subscribers at the end of fiscal 2011 and that competing new entrants Wind Mobile and Public Mobile had about 408,000 and 199,000, respectively. Mobilicity is pushing the government to include a set-aside rule for the auction of 700 MHz spectrum. The auction rules are expected to be released this spring. "The Federal Government's desire to foster a competitive environment has worked, and providing new entrants with access to more spectrum through the 700 MHz auction will be an important component of furthering the gains in competition realized to date," Steward Lyons, Mobilicity's president and chief operating officer, said in a statement.
