Poynt Corp., the Canadian maker of the popular Poynt mobile app, said Friday it is expanding into China. Poynt introduced Asian entity Poynt HK for Hong Kong and China JV, a joint venture between Poynt HK and China Youth League. China JV will initially focus on establishing the Poynt mobile platform in China and agreements with telecom companies and licenses with the Chinese government, the company said in a release. The company estimated that by February 2013 it will have least 20 million users on the platform. Right now, there are 83 million active members of CYL. “These new geographies provide access to large smartphone markets which can help drive Poynt Corp. revenues through increased user queries and transactions within the Poynt Platform," Andrew Osis, CEO of Poynt, said in a statement. Users of the Poynt mobile app at the end of January 2012 were 13.5 million, a 251 per cent growth compared to the same time last year, the company said.
