The CRTC has approved an application by Channel Zero Inc. to change the technical parameters of TV station CHCH-DT Hamilton to move from channel 11 to channel 15. The move will increase CHCH's average effective radiated power from 4,500 to 59,000 watts. The company argued the change for the station’s digital over-the-air TV broadcast was necessary because digital coverage on channel 11 “has proved to be significantly less than when the station broadcast in analog,” the commission said. The broadcaster said it lost many viewers who watched the station on channel 18 before the digital transition, which occurred on Aug. 31, 2011, the commission said. Channel 15 was recently made available by CKXT-DT-1 Hamilton, a Sun TV station that stopped operating last October. Last year, local programming on the Toronto conventional station Sun TV was temporarily replaced by content from the Sun News Network until the station stopped broadcasting.
