Quebecor Media Inc. cable subsidiary Videotron Ltd. announced the launch of a new TV interface Tuesday. Videotron said in a release the redesigned set-top box system and interface, called illico TV New Generation, features new visuals that allow for easier browsing and provide an on-demand film catalogue that can be viewed as a series of movie posters. Robert Dépatie, president and CEO of Videotron, said in a statement that the new platform is “tailored to the needs of Quebecers” and features “navigation functionalities that stand apart from everything else on the market by virtue of their simplicity and intuitiveness.” The company said its illico TV interface has a search tool to help sort through content by title, director, actor or keyword. “Interactive apps have been added for easier access to weather, free previews and new releases,” the release said. Videotron said its new set-top box offers a 500 GB hard drive that stores up to 55 hours of HD content or 280 hours of standard-definition content. The company said its illico TV service will be available in Quebec City, Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean and Rivière du Loup by April 4. The new platform will be available in the greater Montreal area at the end of the summer, Videotron said.
