Ottawa-based licencing company Wi-Lan Inc. launched patent infringement lawsuits against three major telecom equipment companies in U.S. courts this week, the company said. In a release Tuesday, Wi-Lan said it has “initiated two separate litigations claiming patent infringement,” related to its fourth-generation LTE intellectual property licences, against Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc., and Ericsson Inc. The lawsuits involve patent numbers 8,229,437, 8,027,298 and 8,249,014, the company said. In a release Thursday, Wi-Lan said it launched litigation against LG Electronics U.S.A. Inc. related to two Wi-Lan patents concerning “digital TV and display technology.” Wi-Lan has hired Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP to handle its dispute with LG and Vinson & Elkins LLP to represent its interests in the other two lawsuits. All three lawsuits were filed with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the company said.
