Cisco Systems Inc. unveiled a new Videoscape Unity television distribution platform at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Tuesday. In a release, Cisco said the new platform enables advanced multiscreen video and television services. It said Videoscape Unity is an expansion of its Videoscape service and includes a multiscreen cloud digital video recorder, allowing customers to play, pause, and restart their TV content from anywhere on any device. “For the first time, video operators will have an agile, open software platform that goes above and beyond TV Everywhere services,” the release said. Videoscape Unity allows for IP video transmission over cable as well as IPTV systems. “The new platform comprises a set of cloud, network and client based components, connected by open interfaces,” the release said.
