Quebecor Media Inc. subsidiary Videotron Ltd. unveiled a new online video service Thursday offering mostly French-language movies and TV shows. Called the illico Club Unlimited, Videotron said in a release that the new service is available by subscription in Quebec and Ontario for $10 per month. Content is available online and within the next few days through an illico.tv Android application, the release said. Videotron said that, as of Feb. 23, Club Unlimited will offer mainly French-language content and a regularly updated catalogue of movies, television series, children’s programs, documentaries, comedy shows and concerts. Club Unlimited will also feature movies, television shows and series from Sony, MGM, CBS and Alliance, among others, the release said. Last March, Videotron launched a new illico TV interface with improved browsing and an on-demand film catalogue. The illico set-top box offers a 500 GB hard drive that stores up to 55 hours of HD content or 280 hours of standard-definition content. In a separate release Thursday, Videotron said its illico TV service has 500,000 customers. “Less than one year after the launch of the new platform, 500,000 Videotron customers are enjoying its speed, simplicity and unparalleled selection of high-definition entertainment content,” the release said.
