CBC/Radio-Canada was granted permission to operate a French-language FM radio station in Winnipeg, Man. In a decision Monday, the CRTC said it approved an application from the public broadcaster to replace AM French-language station CKSB St. Boniface, or La Première Chaîne, with FM rebroadcasting transmitter CKSB-10-FM Winnipeg. The CRTC said in the decision that CKSB FM would operate at the 88.1 MHz FM frequency and broadcast La Première Chaîne programming. “The local programming will consist of a mix of news, weather, sports, music and reports on community events,” the commission said. The CRTC said CBC sought the change to FM to improve its radio coverage in Winnipeg and reach more francophones in the area. The licence expires Aug. 31, 2019, the commission said.
