Walt Disney Co. is closing its Pixar animation studio in Vancouver. Chris Wiggum, senior publicist for the company, said in an emailed statement that Pixar Canada “will cease operations immediately.” “s we look at the creative and business needs of our studio, we’ve made the decision to refocus our efforts and resources under one roof in Emeryville and will be closing the studio in Vancouver,” he said in the email. Wiggum said the studio, which opened in 2010, has fewer than 100 employees. The Vancouver Sun newspaper reported Wednesday that the studio’s general manager stated in 2009, before the Vancouver studio opened, that it would have between 75 and 100 employees. “The team at Pixar Canada is incredibly talented and we are so proud of the excellent work we have produced there,” Wiggum said. Pixar Canada produced short films such as Air Mater, Small Fry and Partysaurus Rex, he added.
