BlackBerry Ltd. on Monday announced the availability of BBM Protected, a version of its BBM messaging service for enterprise use. The company said in a press release that the new application is "the most secure and reliable real-time mobile messaging experience in the industry." BlackBerry said BBM Protected will provide employees with a familiar and useable way to communicate messages, with added security for the transmission of sensitive details. It allows workers to communicate within their own organizations and with BBM Protected users at other companies. It is the first release in a suite of products called eBBM that tailors BlackBerry's popular messaging system for enterprise usage. It was among a series of products BlackBerry announced earlier this year at the Mobile World Conference in Spain. The current version of BBM Protected is available for BlackBerry smartphones running on BBOS 6.0 or later, and BlackBerry 10 in Regulated mode, the company said. It added that, later this year, it will be available for BlackBerry 10 phones that use Balance, as well as devices running on Google Inc.'s Android software and Apple Inc.'s iOS.
