Quebecor Inc. reported overall revenue growth for the third quarter that was almost flat, as growth in its telecommunications services was offset by decline in its media segment. The company said in documents posted on its website Thursday that overall revenue for the three months ended Sept. 30 was $1.02 billion, down 0.2 per cent from a year earlier. Net income came to $45.1 billion, compared to a loss of $188.8 million in the same period in 2013 that was largely due to non-cash impairments according to an analysis document posted on Quebecor's website. The company's telecommunications revenue was up 3.3 per cent from a year earlier to $738.2 million. Wireless revenue was up 30.5 per cent to $75.7 million, while Internet access revenue rose 6.6 per cent to $219.6 million, and though cable-TV revenue fell 2.1 per cent to $264.8 million. Quebecor's quarterly information showed that it gained 111,400 wireless subscribers over the year to end the third quarter at 589,400. Cable TV subscribers were down 34,100 to 1.8 million, cable Internet accounts rose by 24,100 to 1.43 million and landline phone subscribers rose by 5,000 to 1.29 million. Wireless Internet subscribers were up by 3,00 to 7,400, Quebecor said. Its media division's revenue was $298.8 million, down 6.2 per cent from a year earlier. Quebecor said newspaper publishing saw a decline of 6.7 per cent in revenue, while broadcasting-and-production revenue fell 5.9 per cent.
