John Gossling now solo CEO at Corus, Troy Reeb out

Corus Entertainment Inc. is reverting back to a single-CEO leadership structure, with now-former co-CEO John Gossling taking on the role solo. Gossling had previously been co-CEO with Troy Reeb and will additionally continue to act as interim chief financial officer. The company's lead independent director and co-chair of its human resources and governance committee, Mark Hollinger, said in a press release Wednesday, June 4 that "in light of the evolving industry landscape as well as the actions taken to date to stabilize the capital and debt structure of the company, the board has decided to transition back to a single CEO structure." The company said Reeb "has decided to pursue opportunities outside of the company" and has stepped down after more than 25 years with the firm. “It has been an honour to work with the best brands and the best people in the business. I have full confidence that Corus has a bright future under the leadership of John and the talented management team,” Reeb said, according to a statement. Gossling joined Corus in 2016 after working as Telus Corp.'s CFO. “John has capably led the company as co-CEO and CFO and is an exceptional leader with the strategic experience and skills needed to guide Corus through change in an evolving industry. The board is confident in his abilities to position Corus for future opportunities and the longer term," Hollinger said. Corus continued to see drops in television and radio revenue as it released its second quarter numbers for 2025 in April. Radio did, however, show an increased profit. Revenues were $270 million, a decline of 10 per cent from Q2 2024’s $299 million. Television accounted for $251 million, down nine per cent from the previous year’s $278 million. Radio revenues were $18.5 million, compared with $21.4 million a year earlier, a drop of 14 per cent. Television had segment profit of $22.6 million versus the previous year’s $58.9 million, a drop of 62 per cent. Radio, on the other hand, posted $1.43 million in profit, up a whopping 68 per cent from $857,000 a year earlier. Corporate loss was $6.54 million, seven per cent better than 2024’s $7.01 million loss.
