Revenues and profits rise for Quebecor in fiscal 2025

Quebecor Inc. posted strong numbers for the final quarter of its fiscal year and the year as a whole in its recent financial update. For the 2025 fiscal year, the company posted revenues of $5.68 billion, up 0.7 per cent or $36.9 million. For Q4, revenues were $1.54 billion, an increase of $47.3 million or 3.2 per cent. Net income was $860 million, versus $741 million a year earlier. For Q4, profit was $221 million, up from $177 million in 2024. The Montreal telecom and broadcast conglomerate issued its fourth quarter results on Thursday, Feb. 26. Company CEO Pierre Karl Péladeau was pleased with the results, which he addressed in an analysts’ call on Thursday morning. “Our strategy has been clear and consistent–to deliver richer, higher quality services at everyday best prices, period,” he stated. “Pure and simple. And you know what? It works.” In the telecom sector, Quebecor reported an increase of 311,000 to the mobile telephony service, a jump of 7.6 per cent for the year. Internet subscriptions grew by 7,500 people, an increase of 0.4 per cent. Total revenue generating units (RGUs) were up 214,100, a hike of 2.8 per cent. For the quarter, mobile service jumped 1.7 per cent, or 73,900 customers. Internet subscriptions increased by 3,700, or 0.2 per cent. There were a total of 55,100 RGUs, a hike of 0.7 per cent. Average revenue per user (ARPU) for Q4 was $35.23, up from $34.75 for Q4 2024. This marks an increase of 48 cents, or 1.4 per cent. Péladeau is bullish on the growth potential in the telecom world. “We have yet to reach our full potential in the western provinces where our market share is still low but where we are actively improving and building out our network,” he said. “Our track record demonstrates that disciplined growth is possible without ARPU dilution.” Revenues grew in both the telecom and the media divisions of the company. The CEO renewed his calls for support for his beleaguered TVA network, which has gone through several cost-cutting exercises in the past few months. “We will continue to fight to keep a strong private broadcaster to make sure our French audience will continue to get diversity of entertainment and information, not letting Radio-Canada be the only broadcaster,” he vowed. In a statement, Péladeau reiterated his commitment to expand the footprint of Quebecor’s Freedom Mobile subsidiary. Last year, it rolled out a 5G network in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. Plans for this year call for deployment of spectrum in Manitoba. For broadcasting, he called on the federal government to outlaw tax deductions by Canadian firms advertising on foreign platforms. He also advocated the expansion of the journalism labour tax credit to television and radio. Currently, the credit is only available to print media. ppark@thewirereport.ca
