Elizabeth Duncan and Helen Ray del Val have been appointed as CRTC commissioners. Duncan, of Dartmouth NS, will represent the Atlantic region, and Ray del Val, of North Vancouver BC, will represent the Pacific region. Since 2002, Duncan has been CFO and corporate secretary of software development company Navitrack International Corp., and was self employed as a consultant from 2000 to 2001. She served as senior VP and CFO of ACCESS Communications Inc. and from 1990 to 1996 as senior VP and general manager of Access Cable Television Ltd. She has also held several positions with Dartmouth Cable TV Ltd. Ray del Val is currently an associate with Koffman Kalef. From 2000 to 2004, she had her own practice, and from 1990 to 1999, she was with BC TEL as senior counsel. Gordon Moir joins the National Broadcast Reading Service Inc. on April 25 as development officer. His primary responsibility will be to develop the brand of the national charity as well as directing fundraising. He worked for almost two decades at BBM Canada. Pierre Dion has been named president and CEO of TVA Group, succeeding Serge Gouin. In September 2004, Dion was appointed as executive VP and COO of the company, and assistant to Gouin, who was then president and CEO (CCR, Sept. 10/04). He held various executive positions with Vidéotron ltée before joining sister company TVA.John Biondich is the sales manager at Permier Magnetics Ltd. He previously worked for Quantegy International Inc., which closed its doors in December. Biondich is responsible for expanding Premier Magnetics’ blank media sales division, moving to a line of broadcast video tape formats, optical discs and packaging options. Tom Koch, of WGBH International, has been named the chair of the board of directors for the World Congress of History Producers. Dan Korn, of DBM, takes on the responsibilities of vice chair. The Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) has elected a new executive committee to its boards of directors: Madeleine Adams, returning chair and representative for the Northern region; Judy Gingell, vice-chair and representative for the Northern region; Debbie Brisebois, treasurer and representative for the Northern region; and Jack Williams, secretary and representative for the Southern region. Derek Burney and Lisa Pankratz have been named as new board members of CanWest Global Communications Inc. Burney is currently chair of New Brunswick Power, a board member of Quebecor World and Shell Canada Ltd., and is a professor and senior distinguished fellow at Carleton University. Previously, he served as president and CEO of CAE Inc., and was chair and CEO of Bell Canada International. From 1989 to 1993, he was Canada’s ambassador to the United States, and from March 1987 to January 1989 was chief of staff to the prime minister. Pankratz is president, corporate compliance officer and a director of Cundill Investment Research Ltd. Previously, she held senior executive positions with a number of companies, including Evans Forest Products Ltd. and Bankers Trust (BT Bank of Canada). Producer Tatyana Terzopoulos is the winner of this year’s Warner Bros. Canada Banff Mentorship Award. The award will be presented on June 13 as part of the 2005 Banff World Television Festival. The Warner Bros. Canada Banff Mentorship provides Terzopoulos with a three-month executive mentorship with Loren Mawhinney, formerly with CanWest Global and currently a media consultant. It includes complementary attendance at the 2005 Banff World Television Festival. In 2004, Terzopoulos received a Gemini for SWAP-TV, a kids’ documentary series she co-created and co-produced for TVOntario.
