Certicom Corp. has appointed David Sequino as VP worldwide sales. An industry veteran with more than 15 years of sales and business development experience in the embedded industry, Sequino already has a deep understanding of the company’s business, says Certicom’s president and CEO Ian McKinnon. Most recently Sequino was VP worldwide sales and business development at Teja Technologies, a developer of software platforms for multi-core processors. Prior to Teja, he held senior sales management positions with Deep Nine Technologies, Wind River Systems, M/A-Com Semiconductor and Tektronix. Sequino will also be counted on to sell into the financial and government sectors, important markets for Certicom. Cygnal Technologies Corp. has named Todd Rutherford as senior VP of the company as well as president and GM of the Network Solutions Group. Prior to this appointment, he was senior VP of sales and marketing for the Network Solutions division. In conjunction with his appointment, the company has announced that Dave Sherry has resigned as senior VP operations for the Network Solutions Group to pursue other entrepreneurial interests. Sherry was the co-founder of Accord Communications, which was acquired by Cygnal in 2000. Rich Harris has been appointed as senior VP and chief legal officer at Stratos Global Corp. Reporting to Jim Parm, president and CEO, Harris will oversee all corporate legal activities, including participation in critical commercial, regulatory and acquisition activities. He joins the firm from Worldwide Retail Exchange, a joint business-to-business venture where he served as general counsel. Harris also has extensive experience in the international satellite communications industry, having worked at Comsat International and Kokua Communications. 724 Solutions Inc. has appointed Ben Scott to its board of directors, bringing a wealth of experience in the wireless industry to the table. He has served as COO of Bell Atlantic’s U.S. wireless business, CEO of its international wireless business and CEO of PrimeCo. Scott also spent 20 years with AT&T, where he also held the position of president and CEO of AT&T Canada (now Allstream Inc.). He is a partner with Austin Ventures, and currently serves on the board of Active Power, Navini Networks, Netrake and Spatial Wireless. Andrew Morden, VP administration and CFO of Digital Dispatch Systems Inc. has resigned, effective September 1, to pursue other opportunities. The company is actively searching for a replacement and hopes to name one in the next few months. "Mr. Morden played an important role in Digital Dispatch’s evolution into a public company and worked extremely hard to ensure that we were successful," Vari Ghai, president and CEO of the company said in a news release. Bruce Burrows was appointed acting president and CEO of the Railway Association of Canada earlier this summer. Burrows has more than 23 years experience in the industry, spending the last 14 years working extensively with federal and provincial governments. Bruno Ducharme has been appointed CEO and chair of the board of directors of Telesystem International Wireless Inc., following the resignation of Charles Sirois to pursue other interests. The company has also announced that Kent Jespersen has been appointed lead director. Al Tolstoy replaces Ducharme as president and has been appointed COO. Tolstoy is CEO of the company’s operating subsidiaries MobiFon S.A. and Cesky Mobil a.s. Spectrum Signal Processing Inc. has appointed Peter Roberts to the company’s board of directors. He will also serve as chair of its audit and governance committee. Roberts recently retired from the position of CFO of Sierra Wireless Inc. Prior to joining Spectrum Signal’s board, he served in a number of financial roles over a 15-year period with the likes of Service Corporation UK plc, The Lowen Group Inc., Overwaitea Foods and Sydney Development Corp. Microtec Enterprises Inc. has announced that six of its directors have resigned following the company’s inability to renew the insurance policy covering its directors and officers. As a result, Yves Gontheir, Jean Champagne, Pierre Matte, Daniel Cyr, Daniel Tardif and Anne Dutil have resigned. The remaining directors are Raymond Gilbert, chair of the board and CEO, Michel Gosselin, executive VP and CFO, and Robert Branchaud chair and CEO of Microtec Securi-T Commercial Inc. Halifax-based SolutionInc Ltd. has appointed Donald Carty to the company’s board of directors. Carty brings a wealth of experience to SolutionInc having recently retired from AMR Corp. a position he held since 1998. He also serves on the board of Dell Computer Corp. and Sears Roebuck and Co., among others. Pierre Lortie has been elected as chair of the board of directors of Lyrtech Inc., succeeding Robert Brown who stepped down following his recent appointment as president and CEO of CAE Inc. Additionally, Chahram Bolouri, president of Nortel Networks, and Alain Lambert, president of One and Company Communications, have resigned as directors to devote more time to their respective companies. Colin Lachance has joined the Canadian Cable Television Association as director of telecommunications regulatory affairs. He was recently at TELUS Corp. where he was senior regulatory legal counsel in the company’s government and regulatory affairs group. He is also a member of the Ontario and Alberta bars. Don Lundgren, executive VP operations for Canada, is retiring from Sierra Systems Group Inc., the company announced. Lundgren joined the company in 2002 when Sierra Systems acquired his company INSI Strategic Technologies Inc. Canada Payphone Corp. has announced that Erik Olsson has resigned from the company’s board of directors due to a potential conflict of interest arising from the purchase of Canada Payphone by Globalive Communications Inc.
