As expected, industry stakeholders are expressing mixed views on proposed regulations by the federal government to close an apparent loophole in Canadian copyright law that seemed to allow companies such as JumpTV.com Canada Inc. and iCraveTV Inc. to operate. The draft regulations, contained in a consultation document circulated to industry stakeholders for feedback on March 19, propose the establishment of a new category of Internet retransmitter with significant operating restrictions (CNM Update, Mar. 21/02).
