Brigitte Doucet has been named as a full-time member of the Copyright Board of Canada for a five-year term. She was admitted to the Quebec bar in 1994 and joins the Copyright Board from the Association des producteurs de films et de télévision du Québec (APFTQ). There, Doucet worked as legal counsel in work relations beginning in Oct. 1999. Prior to that posting, she was legal counsel specializing in music and copyright, as well as business law. Doucet is a member of the Association des juristes pur l’avancement de la vie artistique (l’ajava) and the International Literacy and Artistic Association (ALAI). Bingo.com Inc. has appointed Jeremy Black as the company’s CFO. Prior to joining Bingo.com, he was CFO at Blue Zone Inc. He will be responsible for financial operations and will provide leadership in the areas of investor communications, financial reporting, treasury management, and strategic financial developments. Prime Minister Jean Chrétien last month announced the appointment of parliamentary secretaries, who will assist ministers with their parliamentary and portfolio responsibilities during the current session of Parliament. Claude Drouin, MP for Beauce, is the new parliamentary secretary to Industry minister Brian Tobin. Drouin, a member of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology, replaces John Cannis. Sarmite Bulte, MP for Parkdale-High Park, remains parliamentary secretary to Canadian Heritage minister Sheila Copps. At Medbroadcast Corp.’s annual general meeting last month, the company appointed Gary Maavara to its board of directors. Maavara is currently senior VP CanWest Interactive. His appointment is part of a partnership between CanWest and Medbroadcast announced in early September. Patrick Smith has been appointed to the board of directors of iMagicTV, Saint John NB. He recently retired from Sprint where he served as senior VP of systems integration and technology planning for the company’s IT division. Prior to joining Sprint,, Smith was CTO for Comdisco. From 1983 to 1994, he was CTO at SHL Systemshouse Inc, in Los Angeles. Bell Canada has made a few senior level executive changes. Guy Marier has been appointed executive VP in charge of the company’s customer service and productivity improvement drives. As part of his new responsibilities, Marier will lead a number of customer service initiatives, including the introduction of the single bill concept. Josée Goulet has been appointed president of Bell Québec, replacing Marier. She was formerly president at Bell ActiMedia. She has spent her entire carrier with Bell and now becomes the company’s senior ranking executive in the province of Quebec. Marc Tellier has taken over from Goulet and assumes the position of president at Bell ActiMedia. He was formerly senior VP partnership development at Bell Canada. CanWest Global Communications Corp. has appointed Jack Tomik as president of CanWest Media Sales Ltd., effective Nov. 1. With overall responsibility for national advertising sales for CanWest’s television, publishing and online operations, he will research, design, plan, create and market multimedia advertising for national clients. He will also develop integrated marketing programs for major event clients. E-Cruiter.com Inc. hired former Sony Electronics executive, Art Halloran, and pegged him to be become the company’s new president and COO. He replaces current CEO Michael Mullarkey as president and Rob Richards as COO. Paul Haggard has also been named E-Cruiter.com’s CFO. Mullarkey has been named chair of the board of directors. Tom Danis has also been appointed to the board of directors. At Sony Electronics, Halloran was president of the business solutions group. There, he was responsible for the development of the concept and structure of the group for the parent company by merging five separate business units into a single cohesive group. Haggard brings a strong financial background in capital markets and mergers and acquisitions. Most recently, he was CFO at Applied Programming Solutions Inc., Boca Raton FL. Hip Interactive Corp. has strengthened its management team by appointing Arindra Singh as president and CEO, and Peter Lee as CFO. Singh succeeds Morey Chaplick as CEO.
