John Macdonald has been promoted to president/CEO of Hydro One Telecom Inc. The four-year veteran of Ontario Hydro had been GM of its telecom division since 2000. He also has experience at AT&T Canada and Nortel Networks. Tom Pollock is the new GM of SCBN Telecommunications Inc. in Barrie ON. He sold his ISP in Sudbury ON before taking over the job with the community network. He succeeds Glen Dufton, who is returning to duties with parent firm Barrie Hydro. The Telecommunications Workers Union has its first female VP. Business agent Hope Cumming was elected at the telecom union’s recent convention. She replaces Neil Morrison, who is retiring. Melinda Rogers has been named VP strategic planning and venture investments for Rogers Communications Inc. She joined the family firm in 2000 after working in the United States. Her brother Edward is now president/co-CEO of Rogers Cable Inc. Current chair/co-CEO John Tory will remain at the company until he departs to run for mayor of Toronto. Dean MacDonald, a former president of Cable Atlantic Inc., is now executive VP/COO at the cable division. Ottawa’s March Networks Corp. has appointed Peter Strom as senior VP global sales, marketing and product management. He has over a decade of experience in the security market, including a stint as president/CEO of Gyyr Inc. Avaya Inc. has named Paul Domorski VP services operations. He has worked for BT’s Syncordia Solutions and Unisys Corp. Lynn Holloran has been appointed account executive, central region for 3Com Canada. She joins the company from Lucent Technologies. Leonard Brody, CEO of Ipreo, a private equity research firm, has joined the board of directors of CATA. Before joining Ipreo, Brody was VP corporate development for Onvia Canada. Versatel Networks Inc. has named three telecom veterans to its board of directors. Signing on to oversee the Gatineau QC company are AT&T Canada president/COO John A. MacDonald; Paul Butcher, president/COO of Mitel Networks; and Eric Goodwin, president/CEO of klocwork. The FCC’s wireline competition bureau has made personnel changes. Peyton Wynns leaves as chief of the industry analysis and technology division to become senior economist in the international bureau’s strategic analysis and negotiations division. Alan Feldman will serve as acting chief of the industry analysis section. Diane Law Hsu has been promoted to deputy chief of the telecommunications access policy division, from acting chief.
