Nortel Networks Corp. has made several changes in its Asian operations. Masood Tariq leaves his position as president Asia to return to North America as president of global alliances. Robert Mao, currently advising Nortel president/CEO Frank Dunn, is now president/CEO Nortel China. Acting president Yuan-Hao Lin becomes COO of the Chinese company. John Giamatteo, who had been responsible for sales in Japan and Korea, will see his territory expand as he now conducts sales in Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan and the ASEAN nations. Telus Québec has appointed two new GMs. Alain Luc Laprise, formerly of Group Telecom and Bell Canada, will head the client solutioning team. Jean-François St-Germain, another Group Telecom alumnus, will be in charge of public markets in Quebec. David Dods is now VP business development for Eiger Technology Inc. He is responsible for increasing the channel partner and affinity business of Eiger subsidiary Onlinetel Corp. John Tory has been named chair of Rogers Cable Inc. while retaining the CEO position. His former job as president goes to Edward Rogers, who will also serve as COO. Rogers was senior VP planning and strategy at Rogers Communications Inc. Timothy Wright has been appointed chief technology officer and chief information officer at Geac Computer Corp. Ltd. Before joining the Markham ON company, he held the same jobs at Terra Lycos. Halifax’s Core Networks has named Ian Parrott as director of product management. He has worked for JacobsRimell, TIBCO and Reuters and will be based in California. Athabasca University has promoted Peter Carr to the position of executive director of its Centre for Innovative Management. He previously served as associate director and has taught at the school since 1997. Elda Rudd has been appointed VP corporate marketing for 724 Solutions. Most recently president of Total Cabling Solutions, she has experience at Westwave Communications and Nortel Networks.LD reseller Yak Communications has hired Rollie Fingers as its new pitchman. The Baseball Hall of Famer was a pitcher for the Oakland As, San Diego Padres and Milwaukee Brewers over his 17-year career. The membership of the national selection committee for the broadband for rural and northern development project has been announced. Chair David Johnston, the University of Waterloo president who headed the National Broadband Task Force, will be joined by: Upper Canada Networks chair/CEO Victor Allen; consultant Lis Angus; Robert Annis of Brandon University; Mary Katherine Baldwin, superintendent of school district 16 in Miramichi NB; Glen Barnden, project manager for the Simcoe Community Access Network Development Corp.; CANARIE Inc. president/CEO Andrew Bjerring; Pierre Bouchard, chair/CEO of the Réseau d’Informations Scientifiques du Québec; Métis Nation of Alberta VP Rick Boucher; Tracy Jude Boychuck, assistant director of the Exploration Place Regional Science Centre; Monique Charbonneau, chair/CEO of the Centre développement de la géomatique; Calgary attorney Frank Dearlove; Debbie DeMare of the University College of the Cariboo; Kirt Ejesiak, president/creative director of Uqsiq Communications Inc.; Whitehorse’s John Fabien; Alison Gillis of the Saskatchewan Arts Board; Federation of Canadian Municipalities CEO James Knight; Christopher LaFontaine, director/associate of Associate Counselling Network; Bernard Létourneau, chair/CEO of GRICS; Canada Health Infoway Inc. Sarin has been CEO of Accel-KKR Telecom, president/COO of AirTouch Communications and CEO Americas and Asia region of Vodafone. The collapse of WorldCom has led to the resignation of directors Judith Areen, Carl Aycock, Max Bobbitt, Franceso Galesi, Gordon Macklin, Bert Roberts and John Sidgmore.
