Carolyn Meacher has been appointed VP marketing of Rogers Wireless Inc. In this role, Meacher will be responsible for the marketing communications team and will oversee development of all advertising, media, packaging, retail collateral, point-of-purchase and sponsorships for the company. Most recently, she was senior VP and managing partner of BBDO Canada. Prior to joining BBDO, Meacher spent three years at Key Publishers Company Ltd. where she held the positions of executive VP of Key Publishers and president of Key Media Interactive. Spotwave Wireless Inc. has appointed Dominique Jodin to the company’s board of directors. He is currently executive VP of business development and sales, North America of WaterCove Networks. Prior to his position at WaverCove, Jodin spent 16 years at Ericsson where he was most recently executive VP and GM for Ericsson North America. Konrad von Finckenstein, formerly the Commissioner of Competition at the Competition Bureau of Canada, has been appointed a judge of the Federal Court of Canada. He replaces Madam Justice D.C. McGillis who has resigned. Von Finckenstein has had a long career in the public service having served at the assistant deputy minister level in the Department of Justice and the Department of Foreign Affairs. Philippe Tousignant has joined the CRTC’s communications branch as manager, media and parliamentary relations. He previously worked in the commission’s Telecom Directorate where he was most recently manager, consumer policy. Prior to joining the CRTC, Tousignant was an analyst and spokesperson on regulatory and policy matters at the Action Réseau Consommateur. Don Calder, chair of the board of directors of Voice Mobility International Inc., has been named to the Accenture Business Services of British Columbia advisory board. Axia NetMedia has appointed Dawn Tinling as VP communications. Most recently, she was manager corporate communications for Canadian Pacific Ltd. Tinling will be based at the company’s head office in Calgary. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chief of staff Marsha MacBride will leave the commission to pursue new opportunities. She has been a mainstay at the FCC beginning as a lawyer in the commission’s political programming office of the mass media bureau and then on to higher jobs. On August 20, FCC chair Michael Powell announced his intention to appoint his current senior legal advisor Bryan Tramont to take over the position. Former National Football League (NFL) receiver and congressman Steve Largent has officially been named the next president and CEO of the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association. He will take over from Tom Wheeler in November. Largent served in the House of Representatives from 1995 to 2001. He was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1995 for his performance as a receiver for the Seattle Seahawks. Brian Collins has been appointed antenna design consultant with Antenova, an United Kingdom-based antenna developer. Collins has more than 40 years experience in the antenna design business and was the founder of the Antenna Interface Standards Group.
