Scott Gibson, VP legal and government affairs at Canadian Satellite Communications Inc (Cancom) is leaving in mid-December as part of a restructuring at the Mississauga ON company, following its sale to Shaw Communications Inc. Prior to joining Cancom in September 1999, Gibson held senior positions with Star Choice Communications, YTV Canada and CTV Television Network. Cancom’s senior director of communications and government relations, Patricia Dumas, will also be leaving the company later this month as part of the restructuring. Prior to joining Cancom in 1995, Dumas worked in senior communications positions with the federal government, and as a journalist with Radio-Canada and Le Devoir. Groupe TVA president and CEO Daniel Lamarre was among the familiar faces re-elected for another two-year term on the board of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. Lamarre retains the position of CAB chair. Also re-elected were Telemedia Radio Inc senior VP Jim MacLeod as radio chair; Global Television Network and Eastern Operations president and COO Kevin Shea as television chair; CTV Inc, Toronto executive VP, CFO and corporate secretary Robin Fillingham as television vice chair; and Corus Entertainment Inc’s Television president Paul Robertson as chair of the organization’s specialty and pay board. Other members of the CAB’s television division are CKY-TV VP and general manager Elaine Ali, Jim Pattison Broadcast Group president Rick Arnish, Corus Entertainment Inc Group VP Bryan Ellis, Global Communications Inc president and CEO Gerry Noble, and CHUM Television president Jay Switzer. Other members of the specialty and pay board are Le Canal Nouvelles and TVA National Network general manager Serge Bellerose, Corus Entertainment Inc VP of regulatory affairs Kathleen McNair, BCE Media senior VP and chief media services officer James Macdonald, CTV Television VP of finance, specialty operations Nikki Moffat, and Global Television Network senior VP of specialty services Glenn O’Farrell. Other members of the radio board include Corus Entertainment’s VP of radio for Western Canada Doug Rutherford (vice chair), Astral Radio Group executive VP Luc Sabbatini, and OZFM, CHOZ-FM St. John’s station manager Keith Soper. Effective Dec. 11, Group TVA’s new senior VP and CFO will be Paul Buron, currently VP of finance at Logistec. Burton will be responsible for the financial management of the entire integrated private communications company, which producers, broadcasts and distributes television programming. SkyDome executive VP Domenic Vivolo moves to Astral Media’s Toronto operation as executive VP. He will oversee the programming, marketing and sales business divisions of Astral’s pay television networks. Chum Ltd directors Jim and Ron Waters have been appointed executive VPs. Jim retains his position of president of Chum Group Radio, while Jay Switzer, former senior VP and general manager of ChumCity and senior VP of programming at Chum Television, becomes president of Chum Television, filling the position vacated by Ron. The Waters will serve with Chum Ltd president Allan Waters on Chum’s newly formed executive management committee. Barr Potter, who has worked 22 years in the film, video and new media industries, joins GlobalMedia.com as president and COO. Intellectual property lawyer Jonathan Cohen of Ottawa was re-elected to a second three-year term on the board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. The election occurred online. Film and TV producer and distributor Blackwatch Communications Inc has named Chris Dalton its president/COO. Previously, Dalton was president of the Motion Picture Bond Company for Canada and the United Kingdom. Founding president William Mariani gives up the presidency but retains his CEO title and also becomes chair. Robert Lewis takes up the new post of VP of content development at Rogers Media Inc in January. He will be in charge of coordinating the sharing of existing multimedia material and the creation of new content at the division. Philip Donne becomes president of Cossette Toronto and co-president Cossette Montreal, effective Dec. 11.
