Jean Brazeau has been appointed VP of telecommunications regulatory affairs at Shaw Communications Inc. He will be responsible for developing a comprehensive telecom policy as it relates to government and regulatory affairs. Prior to joining Shaw, Brazeau held a number of senior positions within the telecommunications, including most recently overseeing Rogers Telecom’s strategic partnerships and regulatory affairs. Clent Richardson, chief marketing officer of Nortel Networks Corp., has decided to leave the company after 18 months on the job. His departure will be effective March 1. Peter Campbell has been appointed interim CFO of SR Telecom Inc. He previously worked in various financial capacities from 2002 to 2005. Most recently, Campbell served as the corporate controller for an early stage technology company. He replaces David Adams, who left the company on December 23. Ignition Point Technologies Corp. has appointed Stephen Majlath CFO. In addition to be responsible for the financial aspects of the company, he will help with strategic choices and investor relations, according to Ignition Point CEO Peter van der Gracht. Majlath has 15 years experience with both entrepreneurial and multi-national organizations as well as with biotechnology startups and major manufacturing companies. He joins Ignition Point from Dyaptive Systems Inc. where he was director of finance. Spectrum Signal Processing Inc. has announced the retirement of Peter Roberts from its board of directors, effective December 31. Roberts’ position as chair of the board’s audit committee will be filled on an interim basis by David Scott. Telecommunications Policy Review Panel chair Gerri Sinclair has joined the board of directors of Ballard Power Systems, effective immediately. She is the former general manager of MSN Canada, as well as the founder and CEO of Ncompass Labs. Kiriakos Vanikiotis has been appointed general counsel for TelePlus Enterprises Inc., responsible for the company’s legal and regulatory matters. He will report to TelePlus CEO and chair of the board of directors Marius Silvasan. Vanikiotis has worked at Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP and Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP where he specialized in corporate/commercial law, banking and financing, and mergers and acquisitions. Sue Zielinski has left her position as executive director of the Moving the Economy (MTE) organization. The group is currently searching for a replacement. Iridium Satellite LLC has named two new VPs. Jim Hamant will become VP of product production and distribution, and David Schoen has taken on the newly created position of VP of technology development. Hamant has more 30 years experience in technical management and supply chain management. Schoen has experience in the implementation of technology for the mobile satellite industry. He is the former VP of technology development for Orbcomm. Gabriel Vizzard has been named director of marketing for Lastmile Communications, a developer of software and hardware for wireless location-based services. A veteran of the telecommunications industry, Vizzard worked at IBM and a number of services providers in the world. Robert Hal Turner has been appointed chair of the board of directors of LastMile Communications, effectively immediately. Most recently, Turner was CEO of InfiniRoute Networks Inc.
