Keith Findlay has been appointed president and CEO of Mitec Telecom, after temporarily serving in the positions. Stefano Bazzocchi has been named VP finance and CFO. Robert Mitchell has been appointed VP of the sitcom business unit. Rob Harper has been named VP of the telecom business. Jeff Joseph has been appointed VP of business development. Jason Cohenour was chosen to lead Sierra Wireless Inc. as its new president and CEO, effective October 28. He has worked with the company since 1996 during which he has played a key role in growing Sierra Wireless’ carrier, reseller and OEM distribution channels. Cohenour was promoted to senior VP of worldwide sales in 2000 and has served as COO since August 2004. Cohenour takes over from David Sutcliffe who has led the company since 1995 and helped grow Sierra Wireless’ revenue from approximately $400,000 to more than $2 million in 2004. Sutcliffe will remain in a non-management role with the company and will sit on the board of directors. Certicom Corp. has appointed William Lattin CTO, responsible for leading the company’s technology strategy. He will also work with Certicom’s engineering, sales and product management teams supporting the launch of new products and solutions. In addition, Lattin will play a key role in the company’s standardization and intellectual property initiatives. Wavesat Inc., a WiMAX chip maker, has appointed Steve Carson CFO. He will be responsible for implementing the company’s growth strategy. Previously, he was CFO of AT&T’s worldwide consumer long distance business, as well as CFO of AT&T Network Systems, now Lucent Technologies. Bell Canada announced on October 19 that George Cope will join the company as its president and COO, effective January 2006. Cope will be responsible for Bell’s residential services, which includes wireline, Internet and video businesses. Cope will also be in charge of the company’s enterprise, small and medium business and wholesale units. Formerly president and CEO of Telus Mobility, he was instrumental in orchestrating the wireless new entrant to Telus Mobility for $6.6 billion. Bell has also announced that Stephen Wetmore has been appointed as group president corporate performance and national markets. Former Motorola Inc. executive Mike Zafirovski has been tapped by Nortel Networks Corp.’s board of directors to replace Bill Owens as president and CEO, effective November 15. But a couple of days after the announcement was made, Motorola filed a lawsuit against Zafirovski trying to prevent him from jumping ship. The suit alleges that Zafirovski has breached several non-competition agreements he had signed with Motorola.
