Nortel Networks Corp.’s chief legal officer Nicholas DeRoma has retired from the company. He joined the company is 1997 and became part of the executive ranks in 2000. His responsibilities are being taken over by Gordon Davis and Bill LaSalle. DeRoma was instrumental is dealing with all of Nortel’s legal problems over the last number of years including class action suits, following the company’s accounting scandal, and dealing with the sudden departure of Gary Daichendt only three months after joining Nortel. David Yang has been appointed the newly created position of CTO at Digital Dispatch Systems Inc., effectively immediately. He will be tasked with providing strategic direction to product management and future products including application software, mobile data services, and wireless communications gateways. Most recently, he was VP and site executive for Raytheon Canada’s facility in Richmond BC. Prior to that, Yang held a number of senior technical management positions at Nortel Networks where he was responsible for product development and architecture, and organization development. Susan Robbins has been appointed CFO and corporate secretary of International Datacasting Corp. She replaces Marc Santerre, who will leave the company at the end of September to join a startup in Quebec. Robbins comes IDC with many years experience in senior management, most recently serving as VP of finance and corporate services at Kinaxis Corp. in Kanata ON. Aliant Inc. has appointed Glen LeBlanc as senior VP and CFO, effective immediately. He most recently served as the company’s VP of finance and controller, responsible for financial leadership and direction of general accounting activities. Jay Forbes, president and CEO of Aliant, had been acting CFO on an interim basis until a candidate was chosen. Brad Poulos has been appointed CEO of Wireless Age Communications Inc., replacing John Simmonds, who has stepped down from the position. Simmonds will remain chair of the board of directors. Poulos joined the company as president following Wireless Age’s acquisition of mmwave Technologies Inc. earlier this year. Robert Yung has been appointed CTO of PMC-Sierra. He joins the company from GSR Ventures, an early-stage private equity technology fund that he founded. GSR Ventures invested in wide range of companies, including those involved in the semiconductor design, wireless and Internet spaces in both China and the United States. Yung also worked at Intel Inc. as CTO. Deborah Weinstein has stepped down from the board of directors of MOSAID Technologies Inc., effective September 16. Replacing Weinstein on the board is Theodore Galanthay. Weinstein is co-founder and partner in LaBarge Weinstein law firm. Galanthay is a consultant in patent and licensing matters and was group VP of STMicroelectronics. CTIA-The Wireless Association has promoted Chris Guttman-McCabe to VP of regulation affairs from assistant VP for regulatory policy and homeland security. In his new capacity, he will be the U.S. wireless industry’s chief liaison to the Federal Communications Commission. Sierra Systems Group Inc. has created the new role of executive VP, growth strategies, and has tapped Caroline Dunn for this position. Dunn, who is currently the Vancouver company’s VP and CFO, will take over this newly created position on October 1. She joined Sierra Systems in 1998 as a partner and director of finance. Dunn was promoted to CFO in 1999 and corporate secretary in May 2004. "With the company directing its focus to develop its four most successful growth areas - justice, health, enterprise solutions, and managed services - we will now rely on her expertise to continue making our a company a success," Sierra Systems’ president and CEO Iraj Pourian said in a news release.
