CRTC denies radio application in Alberta

The CRTC has denied an application by Blackgold Broadcasting Inc. for a country music FM radio station in Ponoka, Alta. In its decision, the CRTC said the station could have an had an “undue negative impact on existing radio stations.” It added that the station’s proposed contours would have overlapped with stations in Wetaskiwin, Lacombe, and Red Deer, Alta. “The Commission has examined the applicant’s revenue projections and is not convinced that none of the projected revenues would come from existing stations, as was stated by the applicant,” the CRTC...
