Chantal Bernier named interim privacy commissioner

Chantal Bernier, the assistant privacy commissioner, will take over as interim privacy commissioner on Dec. 3, the federal government said Wednesday. She will serve “pending the completion of the publicly advertised selection process for the next privacy commissioner,” the government said in a release. Jennifer Stoddard, the outgoing commissioner, has served in the role since 2003, and was reappointed for a three-year term in 2010, according to her biography on the privacy commissioner’s website. “Canadians have been well-served by her exemplary leadership in overseeing compliance with Canada’s privacy laws,” Prime Minister Stephen Harper said of Stoddart in a release....
