DHX Media Ltd. said Thursday it is has bought Epitome Pictures Inc., the Canadian television producer best known for its Degrassi franchise. DHX, based in Halifax, said in a press release it will pay about $33 million for Epitome, with $19.5 million paid in cash and the rest in stock. For the price DHX gets the rights to Epitome’s Degrassi series, which has been produced since the 1980s including incarnations such as The Kids of Degrassi Street, Degrassi Junior High, Degrassi High and the current Degrassi.
