Court won’t hear appeal over CRTC’s radio licence denial

The Federal Court of Appeal has rejected an application for leave to appeal by a broadcaster whose radio licence was denied renewal by the CRTC. The CRTC denied the licence renewal for Groupe Médias Pam Inc.’s Saint-Constant country music station CJMS 1040 AM in July, outlining instances of non-compliance going back to 2006. It also said CJMS failed to file an annual return for the 2018-19 broadcast year by the required date, didn’t file a complete and accurate self-assessment report and music list, and had an insufficient amount of local programming and news, and “frequent”...

After the CRTC refused to renew its broadcast licence earlier this summer, Groupe Médias Pam Inc. has turned to the Federal Court of Appeal, asking it to overturn that CRTC decision.
