BlackBerry buys ‘virtual identity’ company

BlackBerry Ltd. on Thursday announced it had acquired Movirtu, a United Kingdom-based maker of technology that creates "virtual identity solutions' for smartphones. BlackBerry said in a press release that Movirtu's technology helps companies manage cellphones in bring-your-own-device (BYOD) and corporate-owned-personally-enabled (COPE) work environments. The company said Movirtu's technology allows for two different profiles, including two different phone numbers, to be active on the same device, as users shift between business and personal usage. It said each profile can be billed separately, and configurations can be implemented through BlackBerry Enterprise (BES) on the business account without affecting usability in the personal profile.
