BlackBerry Inc.’s new Passport phone will support an application that allows doctors to access their patients’ genetic data. The company said in a press release Monday that the NantOmics Cancer Genome Browser “enables deep, interactive reporting on genomics data for physicians and other treatment providers in clinical settings — for example, giving oncologists a powerful view into the individual genetic alternations that make each patient’s disease unique and highlighting relevant treatment options.” It added that it is the first of a series of offerings for heath-care professionals being developed by Blackberry and NantWorks subsidiary NantHealth LLC, a health-care IT company. BlackBerry Ltd. on Tuesday said it had made an investment in and was planning to collaborate with a heath-technology company in the United States.
