Cabinet lets CRTC renewal of Sirius XM stand

Following the recommendation of Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault, the governor-in-council has rejected a request for the cabinet to reexamine or send back the CRTC's decision to renew the Canadian licenses of Sirius XM Canada Inc., which operates both Sirius Canada and XM Canada.  In declining to review the decision or send it back, the government has allowed the CRTC's Dec. 2019 decision to stand, which renews the license of Sirius XM's Canadian division through the end of 2024.  In February the Association québécoise de l'industrie du disque, du spectacle et de la video, known...

Court OKs Sirius going-private plan

The Ontario Superior Court of Justice has given Sirius XM Canada Holdings Inc. its approval for its proposal to take the company private. In a Tuesday press release, Mark Redmond, Sirius XM Canada president and CEO, said the court’s approval “builds on the strong shareholder voting support we received last week, bringing us another step closer to finalizing the transaction.” The plan still requires approval from the CRTC, the release said....
