BCE Inc. was ordered by the CRTC to cover almost $15,000 in legal fees for the Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC) in relation to a complaint about excessive charges by a third-party service provider with respect to operator-assisted calls at payphones. The legal costs were incurred by PIAC and an advocacy group it was working with called Canada Without Poverty, said a notice posted Friday on the CRTC's website. PIAC submitted an application in November 2012 in response to a complaint it received from a Bell payphone user that claimed excessive charges were incurred as a result of operator-assisted calls.
