Verizon leading 5G tests

Verizon Communications Inc. has partnered with other technology companies for 5G field testing, the U.S. carrier announced Monday.
The testing with the so-called 5G Technology Forum partners — including Ericsson AB, Intel Corp., Nokia Corp., Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., Qualcomm Inc. and Apple Inc. — “covers a wide range of deployment scenarios," Verizon said in a press release.
"We plan to expand this testing significantly over the next several months," Adam Koeppe, Verizon vice-president of network technology planning, said in a press release, adding the company is looking at implementing 5G technology in 2017. "With innovation occurring so rapidly, we want to quickly make some key technical decisions and move rapidly to pre-commercial form factors and testing later this year."
