CETA legal review finished

A legal review of a free trade deal with Europe has been completed, Canadian and European Union officials announced Monday, paving the way for the agreement to come into force next year. "We have responded to Canadians, EU citizens, and businesses with a fairer, more transparent, system," said a joint statement issued by EU trade commissioner Cecilia Malmström and Canadian International Trade Minister Chrystia Freeland. The statement also said the officials were "confident" that the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) will be signed this year and come into force in 2017. Years in the making, the agreement ensures EU access to Canada's telecom sector and gets rid of EU tariffs on Canadian communications technologies, such as optical fibres and parts for electrical sound or visual signalling equipment.
