Google launches AI research institute in Toronto

Alphabet Inc.’s Google has launched a research facility in Toronto dedicated to the development of artificial intelligence (AI). The Vector Institute will focus on “expanding the applications of AI by performing cutting-edge explorations in deep learning and other forms of machine learning,” Geoffrey Hinton, chief scientific advisor for the institute and vice-president and engineering fellow at Google, said in a Google blog post Thursday.
