OMNI still profitable despite ‘financial crisis’: union

Rogers Communications Inc.’s OMNI stations, which the company described as being in “financial crisis” during a CRTC hearing Tuesday, are making profits on its ethnic programming, two organizations said in information presented to review broadcasting licences for Rogers stations.
Rogers Media president Keith Pelley said Tuesday that both Rogers’ City and OMNI stations are facing “very serious financial challenges” due to “rapidly” falling advertising on conventional television, and that OMNI is “not a viable business unless we can do something together to reverse its financial situation.”
