CTV appoints King as VP, programming

CTV Inc. announced Thursday the appointment of Phil King as the company’s president of sports and executive vice-president of programming. The announcement comes on the heels of Rogers Communications Inc.’s announcement that former CTV executive Keith Pelley is becoming the new president of Rogers Media. King is not replacing Pelley, however. King will oversee CTV’s sports properties, including TSN, RDS, TSN2, RIS Info Sports, NHL Network and ESPN Classic. The National Post reported this week that Pelley, former president of CTV’s popular specialty network TSN and the person responsible for CTV's successful 2010 Olympic broadcast consortium, was being groomed to replace CTV president Ivan Fecan. Like Pelley, King also served as the president of TSN at one point. He joined the network in 1989 and worked his way up to senior positions such as manager of program administration, director of programming, senior vice-president of programming, and eventually the top spot in 2004. “Phil has built an amazing organization at TSN and has proven himself as a first-rate leader,” Fecan said in a release. CTV also announced that it has appointed Alon Marcovici as its executive vice-president of digital media. Marcovici was responsible for the Olympic broadcast consortium’s digital strategy, which used mobile devices and other digital platforms to complement the 2010 Winter Games television broadcasts. Both King and Marcovici’s promotions with CTV are effective immediately. Marcovici’s 17-year career in marketing and communications spans the sports and entertainment, media and non-profit industries. Prior to joining the consortium, Marcovici was the vice-president and chief marketing officer of the Toronto Board of Trade (2005 to 2007). He is the former vice-president of marketing and communications for the NHL Florida Panthers and previously served a five-year term with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. as director of marketing media.
