The newly formed collaboration between Bell Canada and Amdocs has chosen its management team. Jim Hubly has been named CEO of Certen Inc, while Marinella Ermacora is COO. Hubly is currently EVP of the telephone services group at Czech Telecom and has experience at AT&T. Ermacora is VP systems delivery at CGI and has spent 18 years working for Bell. Michael Neuman has been appointed president of Europe, Middle East and Africa for Teleglobe. He has worked for Bell ExpressVu, WorldLinx Telecommunications Inc, Cerberus Canada Ltd and V Band Corp. Phil Saunders has been named director of technology policy for the Information Technology Association of Canada. He will represent ITAC at bodies like the Standards Council of Canada, the Telecom Standards Advisory Council of Canada and the Radio Advisory Board of Canada. AT&T Canada Inc has elected André Bureau to its board of directors. The chair of Astral Media Inc and president/CEO of Astral Broadcasting Group Inc was chair of the CRTC in the 1980s. Ottawa-based Zenastras Photonics Inc has elected Walt Burmeister and Richard Coleman Jr to its board of directors. Burmeister is the president of World Access, while Coleman has experience with companies like Sprint, Frontier Communications and US West Communications. Engin Arik has been named as VP specialty fibre optic products for OZ Optics Ltd. He was most recently with Dantec Measurement Technology Inc, where he was VP and corporate business development manager. John Tulley has been appointed VP sales of Infrastructures for Information Inc. He formerly worked for Cray Research Inc, Bull HN and Honeywell Bull. The federal government has appointed the members of its G8 Digital Opportunity Task Force (G8 dot force) Canadian Advisory Committee. They are Peter Harder, deputy minister of Industry Canada; Telesystem Inc’s Charles Sirois; and the president of the International Development Research Centre, Maureen O’Neil. Michael Geist has been named director of ecommerce law at Goodmans law firm in Toronto. He is continuing to teach at the University of Ottawa law school. The Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS) has formed an advisory board for its Women in IT initiative. Serving on the committee are Craig Slaney, the past president of CIPS; Peter Wolchak of Laurentian Technomedia Inc; Lachlan Peck from the Peel (ON) District School Board; Frank Piddisi from the Toronto Catholic District School Board; Vicki Brady of Toronto’s Havergal College; Mary Jane Kucerak, executive director of CIPS; Mylene Sayo, public relations manger of CIPS; Cris Garvey, executive director of CIPS in Vancouver; and Shelley Campbell, marketing and communications director for CIPS Vancouver. The Telelearning Network of Centres of Excellence bestowed its researcher achievement award on Nicolas Georganas of the University of Ottawa. The international award was presented to Britain’s Paul Bacsich of Sheffield Hallam University. Other award winners include IBM Canada, the Office of Learning Technologies at Human Resources Development Canada and Bell Canada. Peter Nicholson, chief strategy officer for Bell Canada Enterprises, has been named a member of the Order of Canada. The Westmount QC native will be presented with his award at an investiture ceremony next Wednesday. David Kingston has been named VP sales for Toronto-based Rhythms Canada. The 15-year telecom veteran has experience at Axxent Corp (a co-owner of Rhythms), Westinghouse Communications and Cantel Wireless. Canadian Women in Communications handed out its awards at a recent presentation in Ottawa. Michele Fortin, VP French television services for the CBC, was named trailblazer of the year, while the woman of the year trophy went to Denise Donlon from Sony Music Canada. The mentor of the year prize was given to Michael McCabe, president/CEO of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters.
