Telefilm, OMDC send new media producers to MILIAThe Ontario Media Development Corp. and Telefilm Canada are sending a number of new media producers to this year’s MILIA market event, Feb. 4-8. The recipients of funding are: Big Orbit Inc., Bitcasters, DC Studios, Dream Mechanics, ecentricarts inc., Hemera Technologies, Marble Media Inc., Primitive Entertainment, SRP Inter@ctive, Strategy First, and Trapeze Media Ltd. Cold North Wind announces Mexican initiativeOttawa’s Cold North Wind Inc., which has made a successful run of digitizing archival newspaper content across North America, announces the formation of DIGIX (Cold North Wind de Mexico, S.A. de C.V.), a 50/50 partnership with Controladora Corporativa Tapitia S.A. de C.V. The new company will sell Cold North’s services and technology into Latin America. No terms have been disclosed. Controladora Corporative Tapitia is owned by the family of Carlos Alvarez del Castillo Gregory, editor-in-chief and director of El Informador, a Spanish-language Mexican newspaper. Toothpaste headlines short film eveningBravo!FACT will show its operatic short "Toothpaste", one of the organization’s first convergence products, at a screening in Toronto on Wednesday, Feb. 6. The evening will also include live performances and screenings of other operatic shorts. More details. CBC convergence show to launch March 18CBC Television will launch its new web/TV initiative, newly dubbed ZeD, on March 18 for a four-week soft launch. The show will air five nights per week, commercial-free, immediately following The National. With the announcement of the show’s start date, the public broadcaster has also posted selection criteria for its content. More details: CBC to launch new interactive program - ZeD CBC touts new Internet and television show as 'open-source' programming Carleton University, Algonquin College launch new bachelor degreeOttawa’s Carleton University and Algonquin College will launch a new Bachelor of Information Technology degree in the fall of 2003. The program will be administered by the Faculty of Engineering and Design and the Faculty of Science with two distinct streams: interactive multimedia design and network technologies. SuperBuild money, awarded to Carleton in 2000 by the Ontario government, included funding for the joint program in the form of classrooms and laboratory space in the new David Azrieli Pavilion, as well as computing and laboratory equipment.
