Rogers Wireless Inc. and Motorola Canada crowned Canada's first wireless gaming champions two weeks ago. Andrea Zurawics of Edmonton took home the honours and a $6,000 prize for answering 77 entertainment trivia questions via SMS. The other regional winners are Jackson Lee of Vancouver; Jeffrey Walker of Regina; Nevena Djordjevic of Mississauga ON; Mike Fallone of Oakville ON; Ilan Saul of Montreal; and Alexandria Hogenbirk of Quispamis NB. Nearly 600 contestants vied for the prizes. Rogers Wireless Inc. has appointed Joseph Chesham as president, Ontario region, responsible for all sales, distribution, service and regional marketing activities for the company's Ontario operations. He has more than 18 years of sales and operations experience and has been with Rogers Wireless for the past 10 years. Chesham has held the following positions over his 10-year career with Rogers Wireless: VP, sales, service and distribution for the Ontario region; VP and GM of the Greater Toronto Area; VP of national indirect sales; and director of national retail sales. Redline Communications has named Jim Dickerman as VP engineering. He has extensive experience in the telecommunications industry having held senior level management positions at CoWave Networks, Zhone Technologies, InnoWave Broadband Inc., Digital Link Corp. and Amdhal Corp., among others. Chris Erikson, co-founder of 724 Solutions Inc., has joined Tira Wireless as president and COO. According to a news release, he will play a key role in Tira's continuing efforts in publishing its wireless Java applications. The company has already formed key relationships with Nokia, AT&T Wireless, Nextel, O2 and mobilkom austria. Laurie Wallace has joined Contec Innovations' advisory committee. He co-founded Datum Telegraphic, a company acquired by PMC-Sierra in 2000 for approximately $200 million. Until recently, Wallace was director of marketing for PMC-Sierra's wireless products division. Robert Latham has been named chair of the board of directors of ObjectWorld Inc., a unified communications software provider. Latham is a former CEO of Bell Mobility and Axxent and COO of Orbcomm. Louis Brunel has joined ObjectWorld's board of directors. He is currently president and CEO of the International Institute of Telecommunications. Brunel spent 20 years with Vidéotron. John Simmonds has been appointed CEO of Wireless Age Communications Inc., a distributor of wireless devices and accessories. Dallas Robinson will retain the role of president and focus on operations. Simmonds will concentrate on the acquisition and business strategy of the company. In other Wireless Age personnel news, the company has added Robert Sim to the board of directors, while Ken MacAlpine has tendered his resignation from the board. Sim is a founder of Wireless Age Communications. Former head of Bell Mobility and current head of Bell Nexxia, Pierre Blouin takes the helm of Bell Canada's consumer business division following a significant business restructuring at Canada's largest telephone company. Other senior-level appointments include John Sheridan taking over as group president of the business markets group, which has been separated into distinct segments. The small- and medium-sized business segment will be headed up by Karen Sheriff, while Isabelle Courville will take on the role as president of the enterprise group. William Kurtz has been appointed to the board of directors of PMC-Sierra Inc. He will serve as chair of the audit committee. Kurtz is a certified public accountant with nearly a quarter century of experience on both the startup and large company levels. Ronald Williams will serve another five-year term with the CRTC. His new term will expire May 9, 2008. He was first appointed as regional commissioner for the Alberta/Northwest Territories regions on May 10, 1998.
