Paula Pettit has joined the Canadian Film and Television Production Association (CFTPA) as the national director of industrial relations in the association’s Toronto office. She joins the CFTPA from the Writers Guild of Canada. When she left the writers guild, she was manager of agreement administration. Lewin Webb has been named president of GFT Entertainment Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Peach Arch Entertainment Group. He began his career as assistant director on several noted films such as Legends of the Fall, Fly Away Home and The Ladies Man. Gary Howsam will continue with GFT in the capacity of CEO. William Biggar has resigned as chair of the board of Cabletel Communications Corp. Appointed president and CEO of MI Developments in September, he cited significant time demands as a factor in his resignation. Les Boris will take over as president of Hamilton-based Mountain Cablevision from his father Owen. Owen, who founded the company, has stepped aside but remains chair of the board. Les was VP of operations at Mountain Cablevision. David Ross has been appointed president of Ross Video Limited from his position as executive VP and director of product development. Ross Video chair John Ross said that his son David had earned the promotion. John Ross will retain his position of executive VP with responsibilities for manufacturing, finance, human resources and IT functions in addition to his roles as chair. Headquartered in Iroquois ON, Ross Video manufacturers analog and digital production switches, routers, DVEs, keyers, distribution amplifiers and converters. Wayne Sterloff, formerly VP of Specialty Networks at Craig Media, has returned to British Columbia and his consulting company, Wayne Sterloff and Associates. He is managing director at the consulting company. He is currently in Los Angeles working on contract on an international broadcast project for a U.S. corporation. Stephen Wetmore becomes group president of national markets at Bell Canada, while John Sheridan departs as group president of business markets. Wetmore moves to the new position from his current role as executive VP responsible for corporate services, BCE Capital, and Aliant. Sheridan has held a number of positions within the corporation, including COO of Bell Cablemedia. He leaves the company, effective November 28. Robert Pritchard, president and CEO of Torstar Corporation, is among nine members named to the ministerial advisory committee on the development of the Canada History Centre. The centre will provide Canadians with access to the holdings of the soon-to-be merged National Library and National Archives. Timothy Thorsteinson has been named president and CEO of Leitch Technology. He joins Leitch from Thomson Broadcast and Media Solutions, where he oversaw the broadcast product line. Brian Cabeceiras has been appointed as VP of the newly established Leitch Systems Engineering group at Leitch Technology Corp. He comes to Leitch from SeaChange International, where he served as president of the company’s broadcast server division. Before joining SeaChange, he spent seven years with Grass Valley Group/Tektonix and seven years with Sony Broadcast. Montreal native William Shatner, best known as the commander on Star Trek, will be presented with an Award of Excellence by the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA). The award was presented November 22 by ACTRA national president Thor Bishopric at ACTRA’s 60th anniversary celebrations in Montreal. The award recognizes Shatner’s work as an actor, writer, director and producer.
