Robert Steacy has been appointed to the board of directors of Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc. He will serve as a member of the company’s audit committee. A chartered accountant, he has extensive financial executive experience and is currently the executive VP and CFO of Torstar Corp. He serves as director of Black Press Ltd. and is chair of the audit committee and is director of Transit Television Network and the Univeristy of Toronto Press. He is also a trustee of the Somerset Entertainment Income Fund. Graham Richardson has been appointed as CTV News’ Los Angeles bureau chief. He will leave his post as reporter for CTV News Toronto. Before joining CTV, he worked for CBC Television in Calgary, for WIC Television in Edmonton, and for Global Television in Toronto. Denis Carmel is leaving is the CRTC, where he is director general of communications. Carmel said it was time for a change and that he had a few irons in the fire, but nothing firm. He will likely remain within the ranks of the civil service. The CRTC is currently looking to fill his current position. Carmel said he would stay at the commission until a replacement is found. Carole Taylor has resigned as chair of the Canadian Broadcasting Corp./Radio-Canada to take a run at provincial politics. She plans to run in Vancouver-Langara riding in the May 17 election in British Columbia as a Liberal. Liberal Val Anderson who currently heads the riding is retiring. Nathalie Bourdon returns to Just For Laughs as head of acquisitions and development. Bourdon will work alongside newly promoted head of international television sales, Christos Sourligas. Bourdon was director of international sales for the company from 2001 to 2003. Christopher Geddes takes over as head of Lone Eagle Entertainment’s distribution division from outgoing Tom Powers. Bud Pierce joins Citytv Vancouver as director of news and information programming. He was with Citytv Toronto for 24 years. He takes up his new position on April 27. Debra McLaughlin has been appointed as managing director of The National Broadcast Reading Service Ltd. She will be responsible for the overall operations of its VoicePrint Canada and AudioVision Canada divisions. She has worked as a consultant on operational and regulatory matters for several broadcasters, including CTV, Global, CHUM, TQS, TVA and the CBC. Her clients also include the Canadian Television Fund, Telefilm Canada, the Canadian Association of Broadcasters, and the Canadian Cable Television Association. Prentiss Holman has been promoted to director of international sales at distributor Oasis International. Five new board members have been named to the Cable and Telecommunications Association for Marketing (CTAM) of Canada. They are Jeremy McCarthy of Alliance Atlantis Communications, Grenville Pinto of Cablecaster magazine, Ruby Tan, of Playboy Entertainment Group, Bil Trainor of Capital Networks, and Mark Waschulzik of Astral Media. McCarthy has been appointed chair of the membership committee, Pinto the chair of the program and events committee, and Waschulzik the chair of the communications committee. Other members on the board are Chris Fuoco, Greg O’Brien, Luc Perrault and John Trainor. Leaving the board are Shauna McCaffrey and Carol McLean.
